New Undergraduate Pathways available at OnCampus Southampton in 2022

We’re delighted to announce that OnCampus Southampton is offering Undergraduate Foundation Programmes in Engineering and Life Sciences from September 2022.
We are ready to accept applications for the Undergraduate Engineering and Life Science programmes at OnCampus Southampton starting in September 2022. We recommend students confirm their place as early as possible to avoid missing out!
Starting from September 2022, OnCampus Southampton is offering undergraduate foundation programmes* in Engineering and Life Sciences. These guarantee progression to study either Engineering and Physical Sciences or Environmental and Life Sciences undergraduate courses at the University of Southampton, upon successful completion of the programme.
*An extended programme is available if you do not have the required English language level. This programme lasts 4 terms and includes an English language module followed by 3 terms of UFP study.

The University is ranked 1st in Civil Engineering and 1st in Electrical and Electronic Engineering with accreditations from the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, the Institute of Civil Engineers and the Institute of Acoustics. These industry standard facilities are located across both the University’s Highfield Campus and the brand new Boldrewood Innovation Campus, only a 5 minute walk apart.
The Waterfront Campus and new Life Sciences building on the Highfield campus provide students with outstanding facilities and has an excellent reputation for providing world-class degrees in geology, biochemistry, marine biology and oceanography.
The Waterfront Campus is based at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton (NOCS) and all ocean and earth science courses are also based here. Progression degrees available in Engineering or Life Sciences


Students who successfully complete their UFP OnCampus programmes guarantee progression to a wide range of Engineering and Life Science undergraduate degrees at the University of Southampton. Some of these include:

  • BSc Mathematics and Computer Science
  • BSc Physics
  • BSc Chemistry
  • BSc Biology
  • BSc/BA Geography
  • BSc Marine Biology

For many undergraduate degrees, students have the opportunity to undertake a placement year working for a business of their choice. This provides students the perfect opportunity to gain industry experience and enhance their employability. Most placements are paid at an average salary of around £18,000 and students are supported by the University’s Careers and Employability Service. Previous students have undertaken yearlong placements for Lateral Naval Architects, Sahara Force India, BMW and Kier.
Alumni of the university have gone onto work for organisations including Microsoft, Apple, IBM, Sony, WWF, BP and Rolls-Royce.
The OnCampus modules for the Engineering pathways include Pure Mathematics, Physics or Chemistry, Skills for Science and English. For Life Sciences these modules are Biology for Life Sciences, Chemistry for Life Sciences, Skills for Science and English. These modules are taught over 3 terms and help prepare students for Engineering or Life Sciences courses at the University of Southampton.

Who are these pathway programmes designed for?


These new pathway programmes are designed for international students, who have completed secondary education overseas, to allow entry into Engineering or Life Sciences undergraduate study at the University of Southampton.
International students will gain academic writing skills, reading skills, an additional year of study equivalent to the full 13 years of UK study all while receiving one-to-one support sessions and expert guidance. This will prepare them for Engineering or Life Sciences undergraduate studies at the University of Southampton.
