OnCampus Loughborough is a new centre for international students that launched in early 2023 and will welcome its first cohort of students in September. Centre Director Angela Mogridge shares some information about the ONCAMPUS Loughborough centre, her role, and what students can look forward to when they arrive.
Can you tell us a bit about your role at ONCAMPUS Loughborough?
“I am the centre director for OnCampus Loughborough, and this means that I have been overseeing the set-up of the new centre. This has included a lot of liaising with many people and teams involved in the development of the centre – from marketing and sales to premise management – and working closely with colleagues at Loughborough University. As we are nearing the opening of the centre my role has moved to leading on the curriculum and pathway modules as well as student and staff recruitment.
Once the centre is up and running, my role will be focused on ensuring that all our students have an outstanding experience at OnCampus Loughborough and that they progress smoothly onto their chosen progression programme at Loughborough University.”
What do you find most exciting/engaging about your role?
“The most exciting thing about my role is having the opportunity to set up a brand-new pathway centre and being responsible for ensuring its success. I love meeting new students and watching them grow, develop, and move successfully onto the next stage of their education.”
What can ONCAMPUS Loughborough offer international students in terms of student support?
“We can offer international students outstanding support and guidance from the moment they arrive in the country. We have a team of student service professionals who are dedicated to providing all the support students will need, such as help with accommodation issues, visa compliance, welfare problems, attendance issues and academic support.”
What can ONCAMPUS Loughborough offer international students in terms of a place to live and develop?
“Loughborough is a lovely market town located in the middle of England. It is a very green and leafy area which is close to many areas of outstanding natural beauty and only a short drive from the famous Peak District which offers miles of hiking trails and rock-climbing routes. A trip to the Great British seaside is also possible from the town – a 2-hour drive will bring students to the coast and some wonderful beaches.
There are also several major cosmopolitan cities near Loughborough – London is reachable by train within 2 hours, and the city centres of Leicester, Derby and Nottingham are all accessible within 30 minutes.
OnCampus students are encouraged to take advantage of the high quality and reasonably priced university student accommodation offered on-site. Having a room on campus really puts you in the middle of the Loughborough community with access to all the important student facilities.”
What are the benefits of Loughborough University as a place to study?
“Loughborough is a prestigious British university which consistently ranks in the Top Ten of UK Universities. The university ranks highly for the quality of its education delivery, its research capabilities, and student experience. It is also an institution that is famous for having world-class facilities – not just in sport but in engineering as well. In fact, STEM as a whole! The Loughborough campus is a haven for sports enthusiasts – whether you be elite, professional, or simply a hobbyist – with many national teams using the facilities to prepare for major competitions.
All OnCampus students will be full members of the university, with access to all the facilities, clubs, and societies available to other students. There is a strong feeling of community at Loughborough University, and our international ONCAMPUS students will be very much integral members of that community. We look forward to welcoming our first cohort in September!”
