The University of Southampton is a prestigious, research-intensive university, one of the founding members of the Russell Group, based in a vibrant city in South East England.

Life on the campus

The University of Southampton's student union is based on the Highfield Campus, the social heart of the university. The student union offers representation for students as well as providing advice and help to ensure students are supported during their university experience. There are also more then 200 clubs and societies that suit a wide range of hobbies and interests, and the union building is home to a variety of places to eat, drink, and socialise. OnCampus Southampton students are able to join the student union upon arrival to the university, helping them to be part of the community as soon as they join us.
Living in Southampton
Southampton is the ideal city for international students to call home for their studies. It has a large student population and a diverse, multicultural community, and the city offers hundreds of restaurants, live music events, galleries and museums, a shopping centre, and historical sites so there's no shortage of things to do. The nearby historic city of Winchester provides a great day out, as well as being home to the University of Southampton's arts-focused campus.
As well as being a vibrant city, Southampton also offers a reassuring environment for new students, having been ranked as the 6th safest city in the UK by OneFamily in 2021. There are also more than 8,000 businesses and links to industry based in Southampton, meaning students are well-placed to start their careers after graduating.

Its location on the South East coast places it in easy reach of other cultural British hubs such as Bristol, Brighton, and London via train. Southampton City Airport is just 12 minutes away by bus, meaning journeys further afield are also accessible.
