About the Pre-Master's Programme
This programme is designed to prepare international students for postgraduate study in Ireland. The PMP will allow you to improve your English while learning the study skills and research methods that you will need during your Master's degree studies.
All students who successfully complete the PMP are guaranteed placement on a suitable programme of postgraduate study at one of our university partners provided they meet any additional university degree-specific requirements that may also apply. You will be informed of this at the application and enrolment stages.
The level of the PMP is at Irish NFQ Level 8, and the module specifications have been developed with this level benchmarking in mind. English provision is mapped to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). TU Dublin is the accrediting body for the programme and makes the awards.
The duration of the programme is nine months. Each semester consists of thirteen teaching weeks, one reading week, and an assessment week. The weekly hours involve students on studying a minimum of 18 (and up to 25) hours per week. Students will be expected to timetable self-study hours in addition to classroom-based hours.
English Language forms a minimum of six hours of your timetable, is compulsory and will be integrated into the teaching of academic subjects as well as being taught separately if you need additional support.
Each module will have an assessment schedule, which will be completed by the end of the appropriate term and will include formative and summative assignments and other assessment tasks. Assessments will be designed to demonstrate learning across the individual modules of the programme and to allow you to experience a wide range of the assessment methods used in Irish postgraduate programmes.
Assessments will normally include coursework, essays, reports and other structured assignments, oral examinations and unseen written examinations.
This programme is awarded by TU Dublin and the policies, manuals and handbooks relevant to this programme can be found via the link below.
